WASHINGTON, D.C. – After many months of rolling along at a snail’s pace, with new revelations coming out in dribs and drabs, it appears the investigation steam roller threatening Donald Trump’s presidency is picking up speed as August comes to a close and the midterm elections are right around the corner.

While Trump is avoiding direct questioning from Special Counsel Robert Mueller with misleading tweets and crazy statements from his TV news attorney Rudy Giuliani because of a concern about being “trapped” into committing obstruction of justice, Trump just walked right into a political trap by once again threatening to get rid of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

The former Senator from Alabama was the first nationally known leader to join Trump’s campaign back in 2016 and has been one of Trump’s best friends, pushing his racist anti-immigrant agenda and refusing to give up in the federal war on drugs by opposing the legalization of marijuana.

But when attacked by Trump on Fox News this week, Sessions issued a statement fighting back – not to keep his job, apparently, but to argue for an independent justice system and to save his own reputation.

Trump lashed out at Sessions in a Fox and Friends interview aired on Thursday morning, calling it “incredible” that Mr Sessions “never took control” of the Justice Department. He also returned to his familiar complaint about Sessions’ decision to recuse himself from the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Sessions stepped down from the investigation last year when it was revealed that he failed to his disclose his own contacts with the Russian ambassador during his Senate confirmation hearing.

“Even my enemies say that Jeff Sessions should have told you that he was going to recuse himself, and then you wouldn’t have put him in,” Trump told Fox’s Ainsely Earhardt.

“He took the job and then he said I”m going to recuse myself’. I said, ‘What kind of a man is this?'” Trump said.

“I took control of the Department of Justice the day I was sworn in, which is why we have had unprecedented success at effectuating the President’s agenda,” Sessions said in a statement posted on Twitter. “While I am attorney general, the actions of the Department of Justice will not be improperly influenced by political considerations. I demand the highest standards, and when they are not met, I take action.”

It looks like Sessions’ days are numbered for sure now, since even one of his staunchest defenders has now turned against him in favor of the president.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina told Bloomberg News that it was “very likely” Trump would replace the attorney general “soon.”

One year ago in July 2017, Graham said that if President Trump were to fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions there “will be holy hell to pay.” Sessions is “a rock solid conservative,” Graham said, and Trump’s efforts to “marginalize and humiliate” him are “not going over well in the Senate.”

On Thursday, Graham told reporters that the president is “entitled to an attorney general he has faith in,” and that he expects Trump to fire Sessions “sooner rather than later.”

He didn’t seem too troubled by the prospect, either, only cautioning the president to wait until after the midterms to axe the man preventing Trump from laying waste to the so-called “witch hunt.”

If Sessions were to be fired, Trump could install a political loyalist who could either fire Mueller or severely undermine his ability to conduct the inquiry into Trump’s corruption.

It’s not just about Russian meddling anymore. Trump’s former campaign manager has now been found guilty of eight counts of financial wrongdoing, and his former lawyer and fixer has pleaded guilty and made statements making it clear that Trump authorized hush money payments to women with whom Trump had sexual affairs to mislead the public and influence the outcome of the election and in violation of campaign finance laws: Recap.

Even the tabloid National Enquirer has turned on Trump now, with the publisher David Pecker being offered immunity from prosecution himself in exchange for more information about paying off victims and then killing stories.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein took the lead in the Russia investigation when Sessions recused himself following the revelation that he met with Russia’s ambassador to the United States on more than one occasion prior to the election. Rosenstein appointed Mueller as special counsel, and his role has been defended by Sessions.

But a new attorney general would outrank Rosenstein and could take over the investigation and kill it in accordance with the president’s wishes, although it is a political trap that would only hasten Trump’s downfall. Mueller is surely backing up his investigation files and has farmed out many of the resulting legal cases to the attorney general of New York, where Trump could be tried and found guilty of crimes that would surely be considered “high crimes” according to constitutional provisions for impeachment.

All of this just gives the Democrats more ammunition in the midterm elections to take over the House and Senate, where new members of Congress will be champing at the bit to bring articles of impeachment against Trump in the House and try him in the Senate. Trump has demonstrated from the beginning of his administration that he doesn’t know the difference between law and politics. The noose is tightening around his neck every time he opens his mouth. It’s now just a matter of time before his downfall becomes inevitable.

The way this whole drama has been drawn out illustrates how the real enemies of this nation don’t live in foreign countries. They are the Republicans stalking the halls of Congress. Hopefully Americans will vote them all out in the forthcoming midterm election, and we can remove the Trump cancer from American leadership. NEVER ANOTHER REPUBLICAN!!!
