The Big Picture –
By Glynn Wilson –
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Some say the world will end in fire.
Maybe they are right.
Whether you cling to Biblical prophesy or believe the science of global warming and climate change, much of the world does seem to be on fire these days, and it seems to be getting hotter by the day.
Don’t just believe me.
“Fllames light up hillsides in British Columbia. Smoke swells over highways into Athens. A swimming pool in California is surrounded by charred rubble. Thick forests in Siberia lie shriveled and brown,” according to Time magazine.
“Countries across the northern hemisphere this summer are experiencing the worst wildfires in years of recorded history, with large swaths of land and entire towns in Europe, North America and Russia consumed by flames since the start of July. Though many of these countries are used to summer fire seasons, climate change is making the hot, dry conditions that allow fires to catch and spread more common and more intense. In parts of the western U.S., a summer of intense heat waves has arrived on the back of a weak rainy season, as a two-year-long drought stretches on. In mid-July, fires broke out in parts of Oregon and California, together consuming more than 230,000 hectares, part of a nationwide toll of over 1 million hectares burned so far in wildfires this year.”
On top of that, we thought we had turned the corner and moved past the worst of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, but low and behold, the Delta variant is spreading fast again, making millions of people sick, filling up hospital beds and killing people again.
Oh, the hubris of man, thinking we can control Mother Nature.
I’m guilty too, publishing the wishful thinking back in May that smart, vaccinated people could dance to live music again without wearing masks.

It was nothing more than a spring-summer break, which we all needed. But here we are again, and it appears the hellscape year of 2020 will continue through 2021 and beyond.

Lucy Walker has just released a documentary on the wildfires in California, and she quotes victims saying the world will end in an apocalypse of fire.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has $100 million in the bank and is planning a political comeback in 2024. Will he recover from the head wound of defeat in 2020 and take over the country again? Will this anti-Christ make a successful political comeback?
Jesus fucking Christ say it ain’t so.
People must get smarter and fast, or we are freaking doomed.
Come on people. Wake up and smell the wildfires and stop screwing up the planet.
Get the vaccine, wear the mask, stop spreading the virus.
Do you just not care enough about yourself and your children to act in your own self defense?
No gun and no prayer is going to save you from these existential threats.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that’s the way I see it on this August day in the Year of our Lord 2021.
I’m hiding out in the mountains of the Mid-Atlantic region watching the latest Apocalypse Now on Facebook Live. My carbon footprint is about as low as any individual can make it. There is nothing more I can do but tell the story and issue the warning.
If you are watching it all on cable television news in a big, air conditioned house, driving a gas guzzling SUV, and voting Republican, you are part of the problem, not the solution.
When this Earthly Judgement Day comes for you, you will find out there is no savior from outer space to rescue you.
Only you can save yourself and the rest of us.
Wake up.
Get smart.
Do the right thing.
Before you continue, I’d like to ask if you could support our independent journalism as we head into one of the most critical news periods of our time in 2024.
The New American Journal is deeply dedicated to uncovering the escalating threats to our democracy and holding those in power accountable. With a turbulent presidential race and the possibility of an even more extreme Trump presidency on the horizon, the need for independent, credible journalism that emphasizes the importance of the upcoming election for our nation and planet has never been greater.
However, a small group of billionaire owners control a significant portion of the information that reaches the public. We are different. We don’t have a billionaire owner or shareholders. Our journalism is created to serve the public interest, not to generate profit. Unlike much of the U.S. media, which often falls into the trap of false equivalence in the name of neutrality, we strive to highlight the lies of powerful individuals and institutions, showing how misinformation and demagoguery can harm democracy.
Our journalists provide context, investigate, and bring to light the critical stories of our time, from election integrity threats to the worsening climate crisis and complex international conflicts. As a news organization with a strong voice, we offer a unique, outsider perspective that is often missing in American media.
Thanks to our unique reader-supported model, you can access the New American journal without encountering a paywall. This is possible because of readers like you. Your support keeps us independent, free from external influences, and accessible to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay for news.
Please help if you can.
American journalists need your help more than ever as forces amass against the free press and democracy itself. We must not let the crypto-fascists and the AI bots take over.

If you read the conservative “Philadelphia Trumpet” you are strongly advised that “only God controls climate” and any effort we put forth = a total denial of “god’s” power and plan and will result in eternal damnation. This is not religion it is sheer stupidity and ignorance. The Lord’s Prayer clearly states God’s will be established on EARTH as in Heaven-so, we have much work to do and it ironically includes combating so called “Christian” misinformation!
