The Big Picture –

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ahh, did you have a nice break curled up on the couch watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade on NBC?
Or did you spend too much time arguing with relatives about politics while stuffing your face and drinking too much?
For me, it was a lazy Thursday morning watching the parade, which included the first appearance by the University of Alabama’s “Million Dollar Band” at the event introducing Santa Klaus with their rendition of “Santa Klaus is Coming to Town.”

Around lunchtime on Thursday, I broke down the media camper van and headed over to College Park for Thanksgiving cheer and dinner. We all had a good time and didn’t even talk about politics or the news, because the educated, intellectual liberals who live around here all agree the Trump Republicans are all totally nuts and should never be trusted to govern in this democracy.
We got in a game of croquet with the neighbors before dinner, and I was back in the campground for an early snooze not long after dark.
This is the official beginning of the slow news period known as the Christmas-New Years holidays in America, when Congress stands mostly in recess and we should all get a break from the news.
Although Congress will be back soon for a few days because there is still a budget to deal with before they can go home for Christmas to campaign for reelection.
Obviously it will be harder to produce more news from here as the work of the national government slows down. But we are always on the lookout for those untold stories nobody else is covering, or framing the stories in a way more people can understand them and publishing them free online for all those poor people who will not or cannot afford to pay for a digital news subscription.
It would be naive to think the news will stop happening at all over the next month, so we will cover the stories we can get to as they happen.
But we are going to need your help to put together the budget to cover more.
We reached our fund raising goal last month to recover expenses from this winter, spring and summer. But we just put up a new GoFundMe campaign to cover our expenses of operating inside the Beltway for the winter.
See the details of the fund raiser here.
Giving Tuesday is coming up this week, so please keep us in your thoughts as you contribute to your favorite public radio or TV station or renew your subscription to your favorite digital newspaper online.

The more people contribute, the harder we will work.
Thanks from all of us at the New American Journal and we hope you have a safe and happy holiday season.
We hope your favorite candidates win in next year’s elections. The 2022 midterms are going to be an interesting ride, no matter which side wins, although you know where we stand in the interest of saving democracy and the planet.

Before you continue, I’d like to ask if you could support our independent journalism as we head into one of the most critical news periods of our time in 2024.
The New American Journal is deeply dedicated to uncovering the escalating threats to our democracy and holding those in power accountable. With a turbulent presidential race and the possibility of an even more extreme Trump presidency on the horizon, the need for independent, credible journalism that emphasizes the importance of the upcoming election for our nation and planet has never been greater.
However, a small group of billionaire owners control a significant portion of the information that reaches the public. We are different. We don’t have a billionaire owner or shareholders. Our journalism is created to serve the public interest, not to generate profit. Unlike much of the U.S. media, which often falls into the trap of false equivalence in the name of neutrality, we strive to highlight the lies of powerful individuals and institutions, showing how misinformation and demagoguery can harm democracy.
Our journalists provide context, investigate, and bring to light the critical stories of our time, from election integrity threats to the worsening climate crisis and complex international conflicts. As a news organization with a strong voice, we offer a unique, outsider perspective that is often missing in American media.
Thanks to our unique reader-supported model, you can access the New American journal without encountering a paywall. This is possible because of readers like you. Your support keeps us independent, free from external influences, and accessible to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay for news.
Please help if you can.
American journalists need your help more than ever as forces amass against the free press and democracy itself. We must not let the crypto-fascists and the AI bots take over.

Just because we are not featured on cable TV news talk shows, or TikTok videos, does not mean we are not getting out there in search engines and social media sites. We consistently get over a million hits a month.

Great photos-some how, after reading your article, I was reminded about the battle for Hue and our bought and sold politicians campaigning for reelection-environmental issues in particular… There was a great quote, at that time, in a national magazine: In Order for Hue to be Saved, it had to be Destroyed. That pretty much is where we are today (?)
