Coming Clean –
By Michael Brune –
I’m not going to lie, this week’s election was a blow. That’s exactly why we’re doubling down now, and I need to know you are too. Friends of Big Oil have taken control of the Senate, and they have a 100-day action plan that reads like Big Oil’s wish list.
Our opposition is about to have free reign to implement their anti-environmental agenda with the takeover of the U.S. Senate and gains in the House. Approving the Keystone XL pipeline and destroying proposed environmental regulations top their list.
First up on their to-do list: grease the skids to make Keystone XL a reality, develop a massive oil industrial complex in the fragile Arctic Refuge, open up coastal areas to drilling, auction off public lands to oil and gas companies and approve new fracking drills near wildlife refuges.
Rare species of wildlife already hanging by a thread may not survive this onslaught. Wolves, bears and other wildlife cannot stop the drills, roads or development. They have no voice to cry out against what’s coming. They NEED us to band together to fight back and do whatever we can to protect the last vestiges of their natural homes.
But it’s not over, not by a long shot. We’ve been planning for the worst, and already have a plan together to stop these losses.
A big part of our success will be the ability to mobilize you and other folks who don’t want to return to failed energy policies.
There are 2.4 million of you. There’s power in that number-and we’re going to use all of that to stop what’s coming.
Exercise this power. Success depends on all of us acting together. It starts now.
Chip in now and help DOUBLE our capacity to defend wildlife and critical wilderness areas.
Before you continue, I’d like to ask if you could support our independent journalism as we head into one of the most critical news periods of our time in 2024.
The New American Journal is deeply dedicated to uncovering the escalating threats to our democracy and holding those in power accountable. With a turbulent presidential race and the possibility of an even more extreme Trump presidency on the horizon, the need for independent, credible journalism that emphasizes the importance of the upcoming election for our nation and planet has never been greater.
However, a small group of billionaire owners control a significant portion of the information that reaches the public. We are different. We don’t have a billionaire owner or shareholders. Our journalism is created to serve the public interest, not to generate profit. Unlike much of the U.S. media, which often falls into the trap of false equivalence in the name of neutrality, we strive to highlight the lies of powerful individuals and institutions, showing how misinformation and demagoguery can harm democracy.
Our journalists provide context, investigate, and bring to light the critical stories of our time, from election integrity threats to the worsening climate crisis and complex international conflicts. As a news organization with a strong voice, we offer a unique, outsider perspective that is often missing in American media.
Thanks to our unique reader-supported model, you can access the New American journal without encountering a paywall. This is possible because of readers like you. Your support keeps us independent, free from external influences, and accessible to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay for news.
Please help if you can.
American journalists need your help more than ever as forces amass against the free press and democracy itself. We must not let the crypto-fascists and the AI bots take over.

Just because we are not featured on cable TV news talk shows, or TikTok videos, does not mean we are not getting out there in search engines and social media sites. We consistently get over a million hits a month.
